We’re looking forward to attending Conscious Capitalism’s 2018 Annual Conference, here in our hometown of Dallas.
What is Conscious Capitalism?
Free enterprise capitalism is the most powerful economic system for social cooperation and human progress ever conceived – when practiced consciously. Conscious Capitalism believes businesses can be good because it creates value, ethical because it is based on a voluntary exchange, noble because it can elevate our existence, and heroic because it lifts people out of poverty and creates prosperity. Over the past 10 years, the movement has grown rapidly helping companies become more conscious with transformational experiences that inspire, educate and empower. Joining the Conscious Capitalism movement creates a world in which business is both practiced and perceived as the greatest force for good. The more businesses adopt conscious mindsets, the more our world can evolve for the better.
The 4 Pillars of Conscious Capitalism
Conscious Capitalism has four key pillars or tenets: finding a higher purpose that goes beyond profit, creating value for all stakeholders and integrating their interests, conscious leadership and conscious culture.
- Higher Purpose: Every business should have a higher purpose, or a “reason for existence” that transcends making profit. It is the difference the company is trying to make in the world. By focusing on its higher purpose, a business can inspire, engage and energize its major stakeholders through that purpose.
- Stakeholder Orientation: Rather than just focusing on maximizing ROI for an organization’s shareholders, businesses need to recognize the whole business ecosystem, making sure to create and emphasize value to its stakeholders. Healthy and engaged stakeholders will, in turn, result in a healthy and resilient business.
- Conscious Leadership: Human social organizations are created and guided by leaders – people who see a path and inspire others to travel along the path. Conscious leaders inspire their employees to achieve extraordinary levels of engagement, creativity, and performance. The most effective leaders are those who transcend self-interest; they are primarily motivated by purpose and service to people. Conscious leaders understand and embrace the higher purpose of business and focus on creating value for and harmonizing the interests of the business stakeholders.
- Conscious Culture: This is the ethos – the values, principles, practices – underlying the social fabric of a business, which permeates the atmosphere of a business and connects the stakeholders to each other and to the purpose, people, and processes that comprise the company. A key imperative facing businesses today is developing the capacity for more “conscious” approaches to leadership and problem-solving.
Stagen Develops Conscious Leaders
Conscious culture, higher purpose, and stakeholder orientation all start with conscious leadership. Without conscious leaders, none of the above is possible. Conscious leaders focus on “we,” rather than “me.” They inspire, foster transformation and bring out the best in those around them. They understand that their role is to serve the purpose of the organization, to support the people within the organization and to create value for the all of the organization’s stakeholders. They recognize the integral role of culture and purposefully cultivate a conscious culture of trust and care.
At Stagen, we exist to help business be a force for good. We serve conscious capitalists who recognize the power of indefinite time horizons, and who feel called to use their organizational platforms for long-term positive impact.
We are honored to announce that Rand Stagen, Partner at Stagen Leadership Academy, will be presenting the purpose statements and stakeholder maps for each of the host companies throughout the conference. Rand is a past Chairman / current board member of Conscious Capitalism Inc.
Meet Stagen at CC2018 and Our Stakeholder Workshop
The annual conference is taking place April 30th – May 2nd, at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas, Texas. The event will feature conscious business leaders that will spark your drive to use capitalism as a force for good.
CC2018 includes keynotes, learning with and from the community with visits to exemplary local businesses, multiple tracks of hands-on learning, offsite academies and rich opportunities to connect with peers and the Dallas community. John Mackey from Whole Foods will be one of the many keynote speakers, along with Stagen Leadership Academy members Brian Schultz from Studio Movie Grill and Dev Patnaik from Jump Associates.
Stagen will also be hosting a Stakeholder Workshop on May 2nd from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Stagen offices, just down the street from the Fairmont Hotel. In this free workshop based on the stakeholder orientation pillar of Conscious Capitalism, participants will experience the Stagen model and through inspiring video and real life examples unpack their own stakeholder considerations. With feedback from the group and Stagen faculty, participants will share their unique stakeholder needs, challenges and insights to land on a resonant model for their own businesses. Participants will leave this workshop with their own stakeholder map ready to take back home and operationalize with their teams. This workshop is currently SOLD OUT, however, we will be hosting a webinar in June on stakeholder mapping. To find out more details on how to register, please subscribe to our newsletter.
We’re looking forward to another great conference and connecting with conscious businesses & leaders. If you’d like to connect with Stagen at the event, or just learn more about what we do and stand for, don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
